Vermont State Employee's Association

“These are an outstanding group of committed, pro-state employee candidates whom we feel we can rely on to stand with us when the going gets tough,” said Aimee Bertrand Towne, VSEA’s president. VSEA’s member-driven endorsement process involves multiple stages of review of each candidate’s elective and legislative history, and of each candidate’s responses to a questionnaire crafted by VSEA members.

Jim Condos - Secretary of State

Vermont needs a Secretary of State who understands the mission, knows how the office actually works, and has the skill and practical experience to protect our democracy. Chris Winters is the only candidate with the right background to do the job. No other candidate can say that! I encourage all Vermonters to join me in voting for Chris Winters for Secretary of State.

Deb Markowitz, Montpelier - former Secretary of State 1998-2010

Chris is not a typical politician. Our democracy does best when the people who oversee our elections and open government laws are committed to doing so in a professional and nonpartisan way. Chris has demonstrated his nonpartisanship and commitment to transparency and good government for decades. Chris will be ready on day one to serve as our Secretary of State.

Beth Pearce, Vermont State Treasurer

I have been enormously impressed with Chris’ work in the Secretary of State’s office as Deputy to Jim Condos. As a former Deputy myself, and someone who stepped up to become a statewide elected official, I know this path well. I know that like me, Chris is grounded in a non-partisan, practical approach to running an important office. I also know it means Chris is not afraid of rolling his sleeves up and doing the hard work.Chris has the experience and the proven track record we need at a time when so much is at stake.Chris is the most qualified candidate in this race and is the person I trust to be our next Secretary of State. I hope you will join me in voting for Chris Winters.

Doug Racine - Former Lt. Governor

As a former Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of the Agency of Human Services, I understand the many challenges of running a state agency. Chris Winters has the relevant experience, a strong commitment to the important work of the office, and a track record of results. At a time when we could really use some continuity and stability in government, he’s the most qualified person to be our next Secretary of State.

Dick Sears, Senator from Bennington, Chair of Senate Judiciary

As Chair of Senate Judiciary, I lead the effort to pass legislation brought forward by Secretary of State Jim Condos and his Deputy Chris Winters around death threats aimed at their elections team. I understand what is at stake right now in defense of democracy, even right here in Vermont. I know Chris Winters is the person who is ready to deal with those challenges, to hold the line for Vermont, and show other states what is possible.

Joan Lenes, Former State Rep from Shelburne and St George

I have known Chris Winters since my time in the Legislature. He is an authentic and highly qualified leader who inspires confidence and trust as the face of the Secretary of State's Office. He is patient and kind, and his nonpartisan and always helpful approach is reflected in the team he leads - we have all come to know and expect nothing but excellent service from his office. Chris is the most qualified candidate to be our next Secretary of State and he has my support.

Tim Ashe, Burlington - Former Senator, Chair of Senate Finance, and President Pro Tem.

Supporting Chris is a no-brainer. I observed him up close in the first months of COVID - his efforts were absolutely vital to the seamless continuity of government at all levels. His integrity is unimpeachable. While he's a Democrat, you will not find a Republican, Progressive, or independent who knows Chris who has a single bad word to say about him.

Mitzi Johnson - Former Speaker of the House

I'm thrilled to endorse Chris Winters to become our Secretary of State. I was able to see Chris's leadership style firsthand because I was Speaker of the House while Chris was legislative lead for the Secretary of State's Office. Chris is a collaborator and he is strategic. He is an excellent listener, he addresses people's concerns, and strives to find an acceptable middle ground while fighting for Vermonters. I've always appreciated how well he works with the legislature to create proactive and informed policy for Vermont, particularly around voting access.

Carol Dawes, Barre City Clerk, Legislative Lead for the Vermont Municipal Clerks and Treasurers Association

The Secretary of State’s office is one of the main points of contact between municipal clerks and state government. Chris Winters has been providing outstanding support to - and advocacy on behalf of - municipal clerks during his tenure as Deputy Secretary of State. His years of experience, and the relationships he has built, will benefit Vermont clerks, towns, and residents. I look forward to continuing our work together.

Dick Mazza, Senator from Grand Isle, Chair of Senate Transportation

I get calls from constituents all the time about problems they are having with a state agency. I never get those calls about the Secretary of State's Office. Chris has the experience, the track record, and he’s doing a good job!
